Privacy Policy
How BuildingThoughts LLC handles personal information in EasyHomeWatch — both for the businesses who subscribe and for the property owners they serve.
1. Two different roles
EasyHomeWatch is used by home watch businesses to run their own operations, so personal information reaches us in two quite different ways and it matters which is which.
- Information about our own customers. When a business signs up, we decide what we collect and why. For that information we are the controller and this policy describes what we do.
- Information a business stores about its clients. Customer records, properties, visit reports, photos and invoices belong to the business that entered them. They decide what to collect and why; we only process it on their instructions in order to run the software for them. If you are a property owner asking about your information, ask the business you hired — they can answer, correct and delete it, and their own privacy policy applies.
2. What we collect
When you create an account: your name, email address, password (stored only as a salted hash, never in readable form), your business name and web address.
When you subscribe: billing details are collected and held by our payment processor. We receive and store a customer and subscription identifier, your plan, its status and renewal date. We do not receive or store your full card number.
When you connect payouts: if you connect a Stripe account so your clients can pay you, we store the account identifier and whether it is enabled for charges. Your Stripe account details, balances and payout history stay with Stripe.
When you use the platform: whatever you enter — clients, properties, services, bookings, work orders, checklists, photos, invoices — plus a record of the messages sent from your account (recipient, subject, body and whether the send succeeded), so there is a history when a client says they never got something.
Automatically: ordinary server logs including IP address, browser user agent, the pages requested and the time. These are used to keep the service running and secure.
We do not knowingly collect information from children, and the platform is not intended for them.
3. Cookies
We use cookies that are necessary for the site to work: one that keeps you signed in, and one that protects forms against cross-site request forgery. We do not use advertising cookies, and there is no third-party analytics, advertising or tracking script on the platform or on the sites it publishes. Blocking the necessary cookies will stop sign-in from working.
4. Why we use it
- To provide the platform and the features you turn on.
- To authenticate you and keep accounts secure.
- To take subscription payments and to enable payments to you.
- To send service messages — receipts, password resets, notices about your account or these policies.
- To provide support when you ask for it.
- To diagnose faults, prevent abuse and meet legal obligations.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. We do not use the content a business stores about its clients to market to those clients.
5. Who we share it with
We share only with service providers who help us run the platform, and only what they need:
- Stripe — subscription billing and, if you enable it, payments from your clients to you.
- Our hosting and database provider — where the application and its data run.
- Our email provider — to deliver messages the platform sends on your behalf.
We may also disclose information where the law requires it, to enforce our terms, to protect the rights or safety of someone, or in connection with a merger or sale of the business — in which case we will give notice before your information becomes subject to a different policy.
6. Where it is held, and for how long
The platform and its data are hosted in the United States. If you are outside the United States, using it means your information is transferred there.
We keep account information for as long as the account is open. After an account is closed we make its data available for export for a reasonable period — ordinarily thirty days — then delete it from live systems; backups age out on our normal cycle after that. We keep what we must for tax, accounting and legal reasons for as long as the law requires.
7. Security
Traffic is encrypted in transit. Passwords are stored as salted hashes. Each business has its own isolated workspace and the database itself enforces that separation, so one business's queries cannot reach another's records. Access to production systems is limited to people who need it.
No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a breach affects your information we will notify you as the law requires and as promptly as we reasonably can.
8. Your choices and rights
You can view and correct most of your account information in the app at any time, and you can cancel and close your account. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. Contact us and we will respond within the time the applicable law allows. We will not treat you differently for exercising a right.
Service messages about your account are part of the service and cannot be switched off while the account is open.
If you are a property owner and your request concerns records a home watch business holds about you, please contact that business. If you contact us instead, we will pass the request to them.
9. Changes
We may update this policy. The version and date at the top will change, and we will give notice in the app or by email before a material change takes effect.
